About Us:

The Fyansford Hotel, near the junction of the Barwon and Moorabool Rivers, marks one of the oldest river crossings in Western Victoria and the site of the once active Fyans Town.
It was here in 1837, the township of Fyansford was named after Captain Foster Fyans, who came to Geelong as police magistrate. Fyansford was one of the earliest places of settlement in the region and Fyans established his police camp nearby where the Moorabool could be forded - hence Fyan's ford.
Even more importantly, the area was once a centre for early Geelong industry. Flour, paper and cement all had their local heydays at, or near, Fyansford.
When you straddle the crossroads of local history - and are one of the last notable buildings left standing - you can, with some justification, raise your hand as a great bush pub.
Geelong's urban sprawl might be slowly reaching out to envelop Fyansford, but right now the village, and the Fyansford Hotel, still retain an overwhelming sense of their colonial heritage.
